# Nodes

A node is a host that runs device sandboxes (a Mac for iOS, a Linux or Windows box for Android). The control plane reaches each node's agent over the private network and proxies every call, so the API below is the control plane's, not the agent's. Managing nodes is a platform-admin action.

| Method | Path          | Does                                                                                                                                          |
| ------ | ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| GET | `/nodes` | List nodes with their platforms, state and last heartbeat. |
| POST | `/nodes` | Register a node. Body `{ name, agent_url, agent_token, organization? }`. The server probes the agent, so a bad URL or token is rejected here. |
| GET    | `/nodes/<id>` | One node.                                                                                                                                     |
| PATCH  | `/nodes/<id>` | Update (tags, enabled).                                                                                                                       |
| DELETE | `/nodes/<id>` | Remove a node.                                                                                                                                |

To bring a host up as a node, install the agent and register it with the URL and token the installer prints. The onboarding flow, including the prebuilt agent binary and the per-OS installers, is in the main docs under Node onboarding.

```bash
curl -X POST -H "Authorization: Bearer $ORCHARD_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"mac-1","agent_url":"http://10.0.0.5:8800","agent_token":"<token>"}' \
## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.
Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:
```
GET https://docs.orchard.airoverflow.com/api/resources/nodes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```
`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
